Videograph: The Night of 53 Smiles for Joe Biden
1
When the liberal Daily Beast counts the smiles, smirks, and chuckles of Joe Biden during the Vice Presidential Debate, you know that what Joe did was incredibly excessive and offensive.
So just how many times did Joe Biden deploy his withering smile of contempt in Thursday night’s debate? The Daily Beast counted them up — non-teeth-baring smirks excluded — and presented them in this video.
It is unclear whether vice president Joe Biden was just really happy during the debate against his Republican rival Paul Ryan or if he really finds things like a nuclear Iran and the terrorist attack at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi particularly amusing.
Either way, many argue Biden’s frequent smiling and chuckling overshadowed his debate performance. The smirk-a-thon lead the Daily Beast to dub Thursday night The Night of 53 Smiles for Joe Biden.
If there was one thing more annoying during the debate than Biden’s excessive smirking, it was Biden’s constant interrupting. By most counts, Biden interrupted Paul Ryan 90+ times during the 90-minute debate. What’s worse, the debate moderator also cut Ryan’s remarks short more than a couple dozen times.
