13 Reasons Why Your Brain Craves Coffee

Caffeine boosts energy levels — Coffee binds with neural membranes leaving less room for adenosine receptors to make contact. That stops people from feeling tired.

Caffeine reduces depression — The risk of depression in women is significantly reduced by drinking coffee (Harvard University study).

Caffeine strengthens DNA — Caffeine strengthens DNA strands and helps to prevent dangerous breakages (European Journal of Nutrition).

Caffeine reduces cravings — Caffeine consumption can curb cravings and suppress appetite (Griffith University study).

Caffeine burns calories — People who consume caffeine burned more calories while exercising than those who don’t (American Society for Clinical Nutrition study).

Caffeine improves focus — Caffeine promotes a short-term boost in brain activity (Medical University of Innsbruck in Austria study).

Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system — Caffeine activates non-adrenal neurons and stimulates the production of dopamine and serotonin. The release of these hormones can make you feel happy and have a positive effect on the brain’s capacity for learning and memory.

Caffeine could be a life saver — Drinking one to five cups of coffee per day could lower your risk of early death by up to 15% (AHA Journal).

Coffee is healthy — Coffee contains a range of other minerals, compounds, and antioxidants that make it one of the healthiest drinks to consume.

Caffeine reduces the risk of disease — Caffeine reduces the risk of dementia (National Institute of Health), heart disease (American Heart Association), gout, type 2 diabetes (Harvard University study), and Parkinson’s disease (many studies).

Caffeine brightens moods and vigilance — By increasing production of dopamine and serotonin, caffeine raises moods and gives an energy boost.

Caffeine improves short-term memory — There is a direct correlation between consuming caffeine and better short-term memory (John Hopkins University study).

Coffee is a great source of antioxidants — These antioxidants protect your body from free radicals.

    Mindless Eating Tips

More great tips from weight loss and wellness coach Jean Hausmann:

Why am I eating this? This phrase is a good one to curb automatic eating without even paying attention to what’s going on.

One thing that I have learned over the years is when I am in a slump and want to eat a bag of chips or some such item is to move.

I mean something simple like pushups while standing at my counter, put on fast music and dance around for a couple of songs (this one is really good), or clean out something like a drawer.

It’s distracting, makes you feel more energized, and gives you some time to think about it.

Then if you still want the chips, which you probably won’t, have a few. You will eat far less of them!
