    Booze is part of the American culture. It’s pictured in advertising as the fuel to a good time.

    31% of Americans abstain from alcohol.

    As of July 1, 2012, there were 2,126 breweries in America, cranking out 17.9 million gallons of beer a year.

    Europeans drink more than any other continent on the planet.

    In an average month, the United States produces almost 18 million gallons of beer, 10.3 thousand gallons of wine, and 850,000 gallons of distilled spirits (bourbon, tequilla, gin, vodka, etc.).

    54% of American men prefer beer as their alcoholic beverage of choice.

    Almost half of American women prefer wine, drinking an average of 31 glasses of wine every year.

    Americans drink more alcohol the evening before Thanksgiving than on New Year’s Eve.

    36% of all binge drinkers are 35 years or older.

    People over the age of 65 binge drink 5.5 times per month, making them the age group that binge drinks the most frequently.
